What Happened to the Cast of That '70s Show?
Hanging out down the street, you could find the cast of THAT '70S SHOW, Fox's go-to sitcom from 1998-2006. Lasting eight seasons and an even 200 episodes, THAT '70S SHOW had an ensemble that found a charismatic group of characters in the Wisconsin burbs and making the most out of that basement. Yet, as lighthearted as the show was, some very dark business was going on behind the scenes, as co-star Danny Masterson's rape trial and conviction proved. In this episode, we dig into what's happened to the close-knit cast, many of whom came under fire for their support of Masterson throughout his trial and after his conviction, with this a tale of Scientology, wealth, power, and abuse. That said, it's not all dark, with co-stars like Topher Grace and Laura Prepon going on to long-running careers, and, despite everything, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have had one of the better Hollywood marriages. Yet, one can't deny the Masterson case and the icky support from many of the cast members have cast a shadow over the show's legacy, as well as Netflix's ill-timed sequel series, That '90s Show. Prom Night: A classic piece of Canuxsploitation, Prom Night is probably Jamie Lee Curtis’s best slasher outside of the Halloween series. The Fog: John Carpenter’s follow-up to Halloween was a box office disappointment in 1980, but is now considered a classic. WTF Happened to The Black Hole?
In 1977, a little movie called Star Wars came out and changed everyone’s idea of what a blockbuster could be. Overnight, science-fiction went from being a genre consigned to B-movies to A-level epics, and within a year, every studio in Hollywood was planning their own sci-fi epic. That included Walt Disney Pictures, who had infamously passed on developing Star Wars. Now, they were going to catch up with their own sci-fi epic, 1979’s The Black Hole. Sporting a hefty $20 million budget (it cost twice what Star Wars did), The Black Hole was supposed to usher Disney into a new era of movie-making, where adult audiences would be targeted just as much as kids. The movie was not the flop history remembers, but it underperformed. Yet, it was an essential part of sci-fi movie history as it used computerized camera technology to create visual effects, many of which were mind-blowing for 1979. In this episode of WTF Happened to this Movie, we dig into how Disney made a big-budget Star Wars-style movie on their own, without using any of the effects artists from George Lucas’s ILM. We dig into the interesting cast, which included the late Robert Forster, Maximillian Shell and the voice of Planet of the Apes star Roddy McDowell as an R2-D2-style robot named V.I.N.CENT, and more. We also explain how this dark, PG-rated movie paved the way for Disney’s Touchtone Pictures, with them, at the time, wholly devoted to G-rated family fare, something that would change dramatically in the eighties. WTF Happened to Any Given Sunday?
Any Given Sunday is considered by many to be the last genuinely great Oliver Stone movie to date. While the director has made his share of movies since this film came out in 1999, after the failure of his controversial epic Alexander, arguably, they have yet to have the staying power of the movies he made at his peak. Any Given Sunday was a departure for Stone, whose work to that point had been inherently political, but, on closer inspection, the movie carries many of his themes, such as American hero worship, corporate greed, and more. Al Pacino stars as a legendary coach whose team, the Miami Sharks, is floundering. Yet, a new hero on the Gridiron, Willie Beeman, played by a young Jamie Foxx, begins the rise and turns the team’s fortunes around. Dennis Quaid, Cameron Diaz, James Woods, Aaron Eckhart, L.L Cool J and real-life NFL vets Lawrence Taylor and the late Jim Brown co-star. When the movie came out in 1999 (a fantastic year for film), it was a mild financial success, earning $100 million worldwide on a hefty budget. But, it became a favorite on the then-new DVD format, and while critics initially slammed it for Stone’s insane quick-cut editing, nowadays the film is considered a stone-cold classic, and up there with Friday Night Lights as one of the greatest football movies ever made. In this episode of WTF Happened to this Movie, we dig into casting near-misses (Robert De Niro almost starred instead of Al Pacino), how Jamie Foxx landed his first dramatic lead, and the tension on set, with Foxx and LL Cool J famously feuding, to the point that they actually got into an all-out brawl on set. WTF Happened to Bryan Singer?
Before his career came crashing down, Bryan Singer was one of the most successful directors in Hollywood. Having risen through the ranks thanks to his early indie work, Singer was one of the first big directors to emerge from the Sundance Film Festival. His first movie, Public Access, won the Grand Jury Prize, and his follow-up, The Usual Suspects, became a smash hit that made Kevin Spacey a household name. After making an underrated Stephen King adaptation, Apt Pupil, Singer directed 2000’s X-Men. This was arguably the first true Marvel superhero movie and a noted detour from how comic book movies were usually filmed because Singer took the material seriously. The follow-up, X2: X-Men United, was an even bigger smash and helped make Hugh Jackman, who was plucked from obscurity to play Wolverine, one of the biggest stars of his era. But, behind the scenes, there was a lot of drama surrounding Singer. It began with a 1997 lawsuit where Singer while making Apt Pupil, was accused of forcing minors to shower nude for his film. The lawsuit was never major news in that era, long before #MeToo and Singer’s career continued. Still, whispers always seemed to follow him, even as he churned out Superman Returns and his massive return to the X-Men franchise, X-Men: Days of Future Past. But, in the middle of shooting his Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody (ironically his biggest hit), allegations about Singer’s conduct finally caught up with him, and he was unexpectedly fired from the film with only two weeks left to shoot (he would keep his directorial credit). Since then, Singer has laid low, with his proposed return to directing on Millenium’s Red Sonja reboot cancelled after an outcry. Beverly Hills Cop: Is It Eddie Murphy's Best Movie?
The heat is most definitely on in this episode of revisited, as we’re looking back on a quintessential piece of 1980s action / comedy movie-making, that helped to launch the career of American funnyman Eddie Murphy into the stratosphere. That’s right folk, with the much anticipated fourth entry in the series on the horizon, we’re taking a retrospective look at the Axel F infused goodness that is Beverly Hills Cop. OK, well, I guess part four isn’t necessarily ‘much anticipated’ across the entire movie-world, but Eddie Murphy has had somewhat of a career resurgence in recent times and apart from a slightly tame and disappointing Coming 2 America, and the relative appeal of You People, he’s made a positive return the spotlight. Part four is currently slated, as per time of writing this video, for 2024 but there have been whispers about it possibly surfacing on Netflix, or perhaps even theatrically first, later in 2023. Of course, this is all conjecture as there’s no word from the streaming giant as of yet, but if Netflix decide the test screenings have been strong enough, and they can get it locked and loaded in time, then who knows. For now though, sit back, enjoy your prawn salad sandwich and pop a couple of bananas in a tailpipe as we look back on the endlessly quotable Eddie Murphy classic, Beverly Hills Cop! Star Trek Nemesis: Revisiting The Worst Star Trek Movie Ever Made
Star Trek Insurrection was a disappointing entry for the Next Generation crew - both creatively and at the box office. It made $117 million worldwide, which was only about $30 million less than Star Trek: First Contact, but the budget was pretty hefty, thanks mainly to salaries, with the film costing $70 million, making it the most expensive Trek movie to date. While the studio likely eeked out a profit once it hit home video, the margins were slim. Thus, Paramount, which still hoped the franchise could bounce back in another movie, opted to shake things up for the ambitious Star Trek Nemesis. Yet, all the pricey talent they went after, at the sacrifice of some of TNG’s key creative players, could save the movie from being an all out disaster that ended the Next Generation crews adventures on the big screen for good. Killers of the Flower Moon Movie Review: A Martin Scorsese Masterpiece?
Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, despite not having even opened in theaters yet, has probably already been written about more than any other movie this year outside of the Barbenheimer phenomenon. One can understand why, as it’s the work of perhaps the greatest living director in Martin Scorsese, and is the first movie the director’s made that bring together his two favorite leading men, Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro (although the two worked together before on This Boy’s Life). Dunja Rajter - I Believe In Music (Live-Auftritt im ORF, 1976)
Mit Gottfried Böttger und Les Humphries am Klavier. Dunja Rajter (geboren 1946 in Jugoslawien, bzw. dem heutigen Kroatien) ist eine deutsche Sängerin und Schauspielerin. Die erfolgreichsten Filme in denen sie mitgespielt hat waren "Winnetou I", "Unter Geiern" und "Der Beginn". Anfang der 1970er Jahre wurde sie auch als Sängerin bekannt. Mit den Schlagern "Was ist schon dabei" (1970) und "Salem Aleikum" (1971) kam sie in die Hitparaden. 1972 heiratete sie in zweiter Ehe den Sänger und Bandleader Les Humphries. Sie haben einen gemeinsamen Sohn, Danny Leslie Humphries (geboren 1974). Die Ehe wurde 1976, noch im Jahr dieser TV-Aufzeichnung wieder geschieden. Spotlight war eine Musiksendung für die Jugend, die zwischen 1968 bis 1978 vom österreichischen Rundfunk (ORF) ausgestrahlt wurde. Sie war das Pendant zu Beat Club oder Musikladen in Deutschland.

Joe Dassin - La Fleur aux dents (Auftritt im ORF, 1972)
Joe Dassin wurde 1938 in New York City geboren und war ein französischer Chanson-Sänger, -Komponist und Schriftsteller. Der Kinoregisseur Jules Dassin und die Violinistin Béatrice Launer waren seine Eltern. Während er 1963 in Paris bei Radio RTL arbeitete schlug ihm ein Pressesprecher eines Plattenlabes vor, eine Single aufzunehmen. Daraufhin erschien im März 1965 "Je change un peu de vent". Seine größten Erfolge feierte er in den 1970er-Jahren mit Songs wie "Les Champs-Élysées, den französischen Versionen "Ma Musique" von Rod Stewarts "Sailing" und "L'été indien" von Albatros' "Africa" und "L'Amérique". Er sang auch "La fleur aux dents" und "Ça va pas changer le monde". Sein Album "Septemberwind" wurde in Deutschland sehr erfolgreich und er sang bekannte Lieder auf Deutsch wie zum Beispiel "In Versailles in dem großen Garten", "Schöne Grüße an Mama" und "Es gibt Mädchen so zum Träumen". Fats Domino - Deep In The Heart Of Texas (Live on Austrian TV, 1977)
Antoine Dominique Domino aka Fats Domino (February 26, 1928 – October 24, 2017) had 35 records in the U.S. Billboard Top 40. Here we see him performing live in the Austrian music TV show "Spotlight". This additional part of his performance has not been aired in the initial show but later on in "Spotlight da capo". Spotlight was a music show for the youth, which was aired between 1968 and 1978 by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). It was the counterpart to the shows "Beat Club" or "Musikladen" in Germany.

Chocolate Menta Mastik (deutsch ‚Schokolade Minze Kaugummi‘) war ein israelisches Frauentrio, bestehend aus den Sängerinnen Jardena Arasi, Ruthie Holzman und Leah Lupatin (im ersten Jahr noch: Tami Azaria). Die Popgruppe bestand von 1972 bis 1978. Die Gruppe, die überwiegend in Israel bekannt war, veröffentlichte drei Alben und einige Singles mit Pop- und Disco-Titeln. Sie wurden ausgewählt, ihr Land beim Eurovision Song Contest 1976 in Den Haag zu vertreten. Mit dem Popsong "Emor Shalom" von Matti Caspi und Ehud Manor erreichten sie den sechsten Platz.
