Meet Bobi - the world's oldest dog ever 06:01
Meet Bobi - the world's oldest dog ever

SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Leonel Costa, Bobi’s owner: “Bobi was born here in this house in May 1992. He was born along with 3 other brothers, they were four in total, but unfortunately at the time, my parents already had many animals and we couldn't keep all the animals that had just been born. And so, it was normal at that time, when people couldn't keep animals they would either give them to other people, or else they would have to get rid of the animals and, therefore, the other three animals were not as lucky as Bobi was.” 6. Close of Bobi lying down in the kitchen waiting for his food 7. Various of Leonel preparing Bobi’s lunch 8. Close of Bobi 9. SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Leonel Costa, Bobi’s owner: “Bobi eats what we eat, what we cook for us we also give to Bobi. He doesn't eat processed food, I have nothing against it, quite the contrary, I even have animals - other cats at home and they eat it - but Bobi has not been habituated to it - and only eats natural food. Therefore, I think that food is an important factor and then also the fact that he has never been chained or leashed. I think all this gives freedom to animals. And, therefore, he has always lived in freedom all this time. There is also the fact that living here in the countryside in the village, he can walk around the woods, ending up having a freedom that he would not have if he lived in a city or an apartment. And then I also think that the love and affection that we have given during our whole lives certainly has also helped in this process of longevity.” 10. Pan from Leonel preparing Bobi´s food 11. SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Soraia Lopes, one of Bobi’s veterinarians “In terms of lifestyle, Bobi is a great example, because he doesn't suffer from anxiety and has a lifestyle that all dogs should have. For example, Bobi has access to nature, he does daily physical activity, he has an owner who understands him perfectly and who does not generate anxiety, he has social contact with other animals, he is very integrated into the family and of course, this will help him to have this kind of longevity.” 16. SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Leonel Costa, Bobi’s owner: “Regarding the Guinness (World Record), it was a very long process, we are talking about almost a year and about 11 months. And it was also a little expensive, but it was a process where I contacted Guinness to find out what was needed, because I was informed that Bobi had just broken the record, the world record, I confess I didn't know, and so, I went to find out more and in fact Bobi had just beaten it. He was 30 years old and, therefore, he had surpassed the world record, which would be 29 years old.” 21. Close of Guinness World Records Certificate, certifying Bobi as the oldest dog living as of 9 January 2023 when he still was 30 years old 22. Close of Bobi 23.
