What Happened to Land of the Lost (1974-77) + Cast Interviews! 22:45
What Happened to Land of the Lost (1974-77) + Cast Interviews!
How did a show like Land of the Lost ever get made? The 70s saw some really wild television. It seemed like TV networks were willing to try anything at least once. From shows about space age garbage men named Quark, Bionic Couples, or couples who are actually elements like the little known BBC series Sapphire and Steel. Anything and everything was game for at least one season. Children’s programming was even more bizarre, as networks tried to engage kids and teens alike in a time when psychedelic was the norm. When it came to family and kid’s TV though, there was one duo who stood proud with a legacy that would dominate the 70s when it came to family programming and put the variety into the word “variety show”. That duo was Sid and Marty Krofft, and they would be the creators of some of the most iconic TV series to come out of that decade. This would be the era that birthed projects like the Star Wars Holiday Special and several other “that was a choice” holiday themed entertainment. The Kroffts though, would let their imaginations fly and would go all out with the art and ideas wherever it took take them. It was within this library of imagination that the Kroffts dived into the land of science fiction and fantasy. The viewers would find themselves lost in that land, along with a dad and his two kids who were just on a routine expedition. That’s right kids, grab hold of your life jackets and cuddle a Sleestak, because in this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten we’re heading into the Land of The Lost. But, we won’t be totally lost as we’re going to be guided by not one, not two, but three of the stars of the series as we’re joined by Will and Holly. Yes, that’s right, Wesley Eure, and Kathy Coleman and Cha-Ka himself Phillip Paley are here to give us an insight into the magical land. So, let’s dive over that waterfall into The Land of the Lost! Let us know what you want us to cover on Gone But Not Forgotten in the comments! EL HOMBRE DE ACERO ¿Qué salió mal? 14:38
The Warriors: Can You Dig The Most Dangerous Film Of The Seventies? 12:55
The Warriors: Can You Dig The Most Dangerous Film Of The Seventies?
Imagine you’re at a family gathering. Your aunts, grandparents, and even your cousins might be there. You’re catching up with some of the relatives you barely get to see anymore when out of nowhere your uncle storms in from the kitchen and belts a loud “CAN YOU DIG IT?” Well, that had to ring true for some of you thanks to the iconic status that 1979’s The Warriors directed by Walter Hill. The Warriors is a film that follows a local New York gang as they attempt to safely get from The Bronx to their home of Coney Island. Along the way they will be hunted by rival gangs who all seek to catch and dispatch The Warriors after they’re framed for murdering Cyrus, the kingpin of local crime who aims to set up a truce between all the gangs in the state. The scene in question is one of the first scenes of the movie. It shows thousands of New York gang members meeting at night where Cyrus will propose his truce. While the scene is iconic at face value, there are all sorts of interesting facts and stories from production that make the scene seem even more impressive. Notably, the fact that the character of Cyrus (played by Roger Hill) was originally supposed to be played by a real NYC gang leader. The man even met with production multiple times prior to filming to go over lines and workshop the scene. However, when the night of shooting finally came, the gang member was nowhere to be found! This resulted in Walter Hill replacing him with a professional actor at the last minute. Probably for the best- considering how immaculate of a performance we got from Roger Hill. Additionally, you may have heard that the film was mostly shot guerilla style with the production team losing their permits to film in the city and them having to continue the shoot anyway. During this time, it’s been reported that the production received multiple death threats from local NYC gangs who were unhappy about not being involved in the movie. This resulted in production hiring “The Mongrels”, a local outfit who protected the production vans and staff during scenes shot at night (which was almost all of them). The release of the film stirred some violence at its screenings which added a layer of controversy to this already dicey movie. In fact, if you’ve ever seen Shaq give a press conference or host a ceremony, you’ve likely heard him dish out his impression of Cyrus by asking the crowd- “CAN YOU DIG IT?!” All interesting facts but the end result is really the treat as this scene will go down as one of the most iconic scenes (and lines) committed to film. WTF Happened to Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One? 17:55
WTF Happened to Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One?
If you had a gun to your head and had to answer candidly, what would you say is the best action movie franchise of the 21st century? While John Wick is quickly climbing the ranks and a real argument for the Fast and Furious can be made, when it comes to jaw-dropping stunts and eye-popping setpieces that continue to get better each time out, it’s hard to top what Tom Cruise has been able to achieve with the Mission: Impossible franchise. Indeed, while early results from directors like Brian De Palma and John Woo might be varied, Tom Cruise has remained the one constant and used his superstar wattage to help everyone from JJ Abrams to Brad Bird retain his own stamp while improving the overall quality of the franchise. With that in mind, the collaboration between Cruise and writer/director Christopher McQuarrie has catapulted the Mission Impossible Franchise to a new level of dazzling entertainment and death-defying stuntwork. Remember, Cruise and McQuarrie have remained simpatico since working together on Valkyrie in 2008. Since then, McQuarrie has penned scripts for such popular Cruise vehicles as Jack Reacher, The Edge of Tomorrow, The Mummy, and Top Gun: Maverick. In the interim, McQuarrie wrote and directed Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, and of course, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, part one of which is currently playing in cinemas. Although the movie has proven to be a critical and commercial success thus far, a lot of behind-the-scenes drama relating to COVID-19 inadvertently delayed the production, substantially ballooned the budget, and posed quite a legal risk for Paramount Pictures. Throw in controversy over the use of a historic Polish bridge for key stunts in the film and a stunt that suffered an accidental fire, and the seventh Mission: Impossible movie may not seem so lucky after all. Stay tuned, we’ll dig up and examine a lot more about the making of the movie when we discover WTF Happened to Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning! What Happened to the Six Million Dollar Man (1973-78)? 18:23
What Happened to the Six Million Dollar Man (1973-78)?
The 70s were a time when television would seem to try anything at least once. Science Fiction was one of the main genres where this was very true. Thanks to the success of series like Star Trek, and Lost in Space there was a deluge of, off beat and actually good genre TV. Typically it was with some sort of toy tie-in or angle to get children to watch and/or buy something. And just wait until Star Wars happened. But, the early 70s would find a new kind of hero to grab the hearts and minds of kids across the country and he’d bring with him some of the coolest toys around. Because, he was literally made up of metal and plastic himself. The Six Million Dollar Man would jump into television history with a premise that was brilliant, cutting edge, and perfect TV fodder. It would also make a heartthrob and icon out of a guy named Lee Majors. Who would eventually play the father to our lord and savior Ash Williams…but that’s another show. On this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten, we have the technology and capability to make the first episode all about The Six Million Dollar Man. This will be that episode! This episode of Gone But Not Forgotten is written baby Jessica Dwyer, edited by Cesar Gabriel, narrated by Travis Hopson and produced by Dave Arroyo.
