Recensioni: "Ero esitante a guardare questo film, ma l'ho trovato molto buono. Ha catturato la mia attenzione con le inquadrature della telecamera durante molte sequenze d'azione. Quando due minatori sono legati su un carro in fuga, ho potuto vedere quello che vedevano mentre il carro viaggiava senza meta lungo una strada stretta su una scogliera; ancora quando un ufficiale di cavalleria stava scappando lungo un tronco lungo un canale, e quando i passeggeri erano su un treno in fuga. Anche se questo film era sul generale Custer, abbiamo familiarizzato anche con molti altri personaggi. Jeffrey Hunter ruba sempre una scena, anche da anziano, e ritrae di nuovo un personaggio socialmente consapevole come ha fatto in "Dall'inferno all'eternità". Denny meets Texas Ranger Joe Waldner (Robert Preston), who suspects that Patrick is involved with the notorious Mexican bandit El Tigre. Denny and Waldner are captured by El Tigre's henchmen but escape. Denny appeals to Carmel Alvarado (Wanda Hendrix), Patrick's sweetheart, to try and talk Patrick into leaving El Tigre, and falls in love with her himself. Written by Les Adams on IMDb.com Reviews: A good cast helps make this crime/western feature work, and makes up for story that is usually predictable and is sometimes too implausible not to become noticeable. Mickey Rooney and Robert Preston are particularly well cast in their roles, and a relatively young Robert Stack also gets the most out of his character. Rooney plays a young New Yorker who heads to the southwest to find his brother, only to find out that his former idol has changed significantly. Rooney believably plays up the part of the tough little guy who won't be pushed around just because he's smaller than everyone else, and it adds something to many scenes. Preston fits well into the role of the straight-shooting ranger, and Stack is effective as the brother. Most of the rest of it is just adequate, although the three leads do a good job of carrying the action. José Torvay helps out in a couple of scenes, and while the sets are quite plain, they do at least set a generally believable atmosphere. It's kinda corny, but isn't too damaging. Probably even in 1934 what was about to happen was predictable, but, before that predictable ending, enough happens in between it should hold the viewer's interest. It held mine. When the hero meets the leading lady, there is no poor-writing instant romance. In fact, there is no real contact. It's an unusual boy-meets-girl. That girl is Virginia Faire Brown, who is shown with 74 credits, although she never rose to be a major player and certainly not a star. But she is very attractive, even elegant, with an unusual dark-haired beauty. Her character's father is played by the veteran Lafe McKee. The sheriff is by that veteran, and very talented actor, who didn't, alas, often enough get to show just how good an actor he was, Earl Dwire.
