Shabby Tiger - Slow Down (TopPop) 1975
Shabby Tiger was een Britse Glamrockband met hoogtijdagen tussen 1974 en 1976. De band werd in eigen land niet of nauwelijks opgemerkt (volgens sommigen zelfs geboycot), en behaalde haar successen vooral in Scandinavië, Duitsland, Nederland en België. De succesbezetting bestond uit Henderson Gibson (zang), Toni Baker (keyboard), Graham Fielden (drums), Dave Almond (gitaar) en Mike Ryan (bas), van wie de laatste vier anno 2022 nog in leven zijn. Zanger "Hendy" Gibson is op 26 maart 2013 aan de gevolgen van longkanker overleden. De oorsprong van de band ligt in het noorden van het Verenigd Koninkrijk, alwaar de band in de begin jaren 70 in het clubcircuit optrad. Al snel werd de band naar Londen gehaald voor enkele optredens, waar ze een platencontract bij RCS aan overhielden. De eerste single "Slow Down" haalde de hitparades in Scandinavië, Duitsland, Nederland en België maar redde het niet in in het VK waarschijnlijk door onvoldoende airplay op de destijds belangrijke zender Radio One. Er volgden tal van optredens in het buitenland (zoals Top Pop in Nederland). De band trad vaak op met The Sweet, Darts en Thin Lizzy (in de genoemde landen) en probeerde door te breken in het VK wat maar niet wilde lukken. Zangeres zonder Naam is a legendary Dutch singer. She had a string of hits in the Netherlands. This TopPop recording was first broadcast on April 4, 1975. Nederlands: Maria (Mary) Servaes-Bey (Leiden, 5 augustus 1919 – Horn, 23 oktober 1998) was een Nederlands zangeres. Zij vertolkte onder de artiestennaam Zangeres Zonder Naam decennialang het Nederlandse levenslied, hetgeen haar de bijnaam 'Koningin van het Levenslied' opleverde. Tot haar grootste successen behoren: Ach vaderlief, toe drink niet meer (1959), De blinde soldaat (1962), Mexico (1969, 1986), Het soldaatje (de vier raadsels) (1971), Mandolinen in Nicosia (1972), Keetje Tippel (1975), Rock around the clock (met Normaal, 1987), 't Was aan de Costa del Sol (1975) en Vragende kinderogen (1982). Fox were a British-based pop band popular in the mid-1970s. Led by American songwriter and record producer Kenny Young, the band was perhaps best known for its charismatic Australian lead singer Noosha Fox (Susan Traynor). They achieved three top 20 hits on the UK Singles Chart - "Only You Can" and "Imagine Me, Imagine You" in 1975 and "S-S-S-Single Bed" in 1976, and Noosha Fox achieved a solo hit in 1977 with "Georgina Bailey". One full episode of the famous Dutch weekly pop-programme called 'Toppop' presented by Ad Visser and Penney de Jager and transmitted on the 13th of May 1974 by AVRO's TV-corporation. 'Toppop' was the Dutch version of 'Top Of The Pops' but without audience. The Shirts - Tell Me Your Plans • TopPop
The Shirts are a New York-based American punk band, which was formed in 1975. The band’s early existence (1975 to 1981) was closely linked with CBGB, a music club in the Bowery, but it reformed with many of the early members in 2003 and is currently active. The Shirts had their roots in Brooklyn, where Robert Racioppo and Artie Lamonica had been playing together on and off as early as 1970. Members of the band were gradually added (including lead singer Annie Golden) in the next three years. The band got its name when Racioppo, having just broken up his existing band, asserted his desire to form a new one, and his indifference to its name: "call it anything ... shirts ... pants ... shoes ... The Shirts!" The original line-up was singer Annie Golden, Artie Lamonica (guitar, vocals), Ron Ardito (guitar, vocals), John Piccolo (keyboards), Bob Racioppo (bass, vocals) and John Criscione (drums , percussion). The single 'Tell Me your Plans reached #4 in the Dutch Top 40 on November 11, 1978. This Toppop recording was first broadcast on September 16, 1978. The Shirts also recorded 'Reduced To A Whisper' for Toppop, which was never broadcast. The follow up single Laugh And Walk Away' reached #12 in the Dutch Top 40 on December 1, 1979. Sweet Sensation was an eight piece British soul group who had some success in the mid-1970s.They are best known for their 1974 No. 1 UK hit, "Sad Sweet Dreamer". Formed in Manchester in 1971, the band came to prominence after appearing on the ITV talent show New Faces. Under the guidance of panellist Tony Hatch, the band signed to Pye Records. Gloria Gaynor (née Fowles; born September 7, 1943) is an American singer, best known for the disco era hits "I Will Survive" (1978), "Never Can Say Goodbye" (1974), "Let Me Know (I Have a Right)" (1979), and "I Am What I Am" (1983). "Reach Out I'll Be There" (also formatted as "Reach Out (I'll Be There)") is a song recorded by the Four Tops from their fourth studio album Reach Out (1967). Written and produced by Motown's main production team, Holland–Dozier–Holland, the song is one of the best known Motown tunes of the 1960s, and was covered by Gloria Gaynor in 1975. It was the third of three singles released from her LP 'Never Can Say Goodbye'. Gaynor's version of "Reach Out, I'll Be There" became an international hit. It reached number 60 in the U.S. and number 16 in Canada. It did best in Europe, where it reached number 14 in the UK and number five in Germany. Status Quo - Down Down (1975) • TopPop
Status Quo are an English rock band who play a brand of boogie rock. The group originated in The Spectres, founded by schoolboys Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster in 1962. After a number of lineup changes, which included the introduction of Rick Parfitt in 1967, the band became The Status Quo in 1967 and Status Quo in 1969. They have had over 60 chart hits in the UK, more than any other rock band, including "Pictures of Matchstick Men" in 1968, "Whatever You Want" in 1979 and "In the Army Now" in 1986 and 2010. Twenty-two of these reached the Top 10 in the UK Singles Chart. In 1991, Status Quo received a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. 'Down Down is the 16th single of Status Quo. It is taken form the 1975 album 'On the level'. De single reached #1 in the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium, #2 in Switzerland and Ireland and # 7 in Germany. This clip is in remembrance of Rick Parfitt who unfortunately died on Christmas eve, 24 december 2016. May he rest in peace. Tee-Set - Do It Baby (1975) • TopPop
Tee-Set was a pop rock band formed in 1966 in Delft, Netherlands. The group recorded a single in 1969 titled "Ma Belle Amie", which was a hit in their native country, selling over 100,000 copies. The group released an album in the United States on Colossus Records in 1970 titled Ma Belle Amie (the single of the same name listing the artist as 'The Tee Set'), which reached nr. 158 on the Billboard 200 chart, just as the single took off in the United States, eventually reaching #5. The single sold over 1 million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. The version of "Ma Belle Amie" released in 1970 on Major Minor records in the UK is a different studio version of the song, slower in tempo and beginning in a lower key than the hit U.S. version. In the Netherlands, the next single "She Likes Weeds" attained #1. The follow-up single "If You Do Believe in Love" hit #81. The group disbanded in 1975, but briefly reunited in 1978 and 1983. Since 1983 the band was revived, although its work was mainly nostalgic "sixties". The first line-up in 1965 was with Peter Tetteroo, Gerard Romeyn, Polle Eduard and Carry Janssen. Later Robbie Plazier and Hans van Eijck joined. (he was the main songwriter). 'Do It Any Way You Wanna' is a single by the American music group The People's Choice. It comes from their album Boogie Down U.S.A.. The song is largely instrumental funk; the band sang only the title line. The song reached no 4 in the Dutch Top 40 on November 29, 1975 It was the second single under this group name. Previously, the band was called The People's Choice. She came from the stable of "Gamble and Huff". However, with this single only Leon Huff was at the helm as a writer and music producer. It remained by far their biggest hit. The basis of the song was further used by Dillinger in his song 'Cokane In My Brain', which also featured Sly and Robbie. That became a number 1 hit in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, the boy band Sat-R-Day also had a minor hit with it in an adaptation.
