Heart is an American rock band formed in 1967 in Seattle, Washington as The Army. Two years later, The Army changed their name to Hocus Pocus, then they changed their name again to White Heart a year later, but eventually changed the name a final time to Heart in 1973. By the mid-1970s, original members Roger Fisher (guitar) and Steve Fossen (bass guitar) had been joined by sisters Ann Wilson (lead vocals and flute) and Nancy Wilson (rhythm guitar, backing and occasional lead vocals), Michael Derosier (drums), and Howard Leese (guitar and keyboards) to form the lineup for the band's initial mid- to late-1970s success period. These core members were included in the band's 2013 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Heart rose to fame with music influenced by hard rock and heavy metal, as well as folk music. The band's popularity declined in the early 1980s, but the band began a successful comeback in 1985 which continued into the mid-1990s. Heart disbanded in 1998, resumed performing in 2002, went on hiatus in 2016, and resumed performing in the summer of 2019. The Runaways - School Days (1977) • TopPop 02:48
The Runaways - School Days (1977) • TopPop
The Runaways were an all-female teenage American rock band that recorded and performed in the second half of the 1970s. The band released four studio albums and one live set during its run. Among their best-known songs are "Cherry Bomb", "Hollywood", "Queens of Noise" and a cover version of the Velvet Underground’s "Rock & Roll". Never a major success in the United States, the Runaways became a sensation overseas, especially in Japan, thanks to the hit single "Cherry Bomb". The Runaways were formed in late 1975 by drummer Sandy West and guitarist Joan Jett after they had both introduced themselves to producer Kim Fowley. Fowley then helped the girls find other members. Starting as a power trio with singer/bassist Micki Steele, they soon added lead guitarist Lita Ford, who had originally auditioned for the bass spot; Jett switched to rhythm guitar. Steele was fired from the group, replaced by local bassist Peggy Foster, who left after just one month. Lead singer Cherie Currie was found and recruited in a local teen nightclub called the Sugar Shack, followed by Jackie Fox (who had originally auditioned for the lead guitar spot) on bass. This Legendary Toppop performance was first broadcast on 26 November 1977. Watch our great music videos ❯ https://goo.gl/feVLNN More TopPop? Baccara - Yes Sir, I Can Boogie (1977) • TopPop 04:28
Baccara - Yes Sir, I Can Boogie (1977) • TopPop
Rest in peace, María Mendiola. María Mendiola, one of the two singers of the Spanish group Baccara, has died yesterday, Saturday September 11, 2021. The group had a huge hit in the 1970s with 'Yes sir, I can boogie'. Baccara also represented Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1978. María Mendiola was 69 years old. Baccara is a female vocal duo formed in 1977 by Spanish artists Mayte Mateos (born 7 February 1951 in Logroño) and María Mendiola (born 4 April 1952 in Madrid, deceased September 11, 2021). Mayte is mostly dressed in black and Maria in white. Their music is a mix of pop and disco with a light Spanish accent. Together they performed as flamenco dancers for tourists on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura. There they were discovered in 1976 by the German record executive of RCA-Records who offered them a contract. The music they released was a mixture of pop music and disco with a touch of flamenco. Baccara sang songs in English, but with a Spanish accent (only Mendiola actually spoke English). In 1977 they had a big hit with 'Yes sir, I can boogie', the single sold 18 million copies and Baccara became the first Spanish group in history to reach number 1 in the British charts and in many other countries in Europe. The successor 'Sorry, I'm a lady' also did well in the European charts. Baccara's hit 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie' from 1977 is a hit again this year 2021. The Scottish Soccer Team, playing in the Euro 2020 tournament, have adopted the song sung by Baccara in English with a heavy Spanish accent as Scotland’s national football team anthem. The Baccara song is now affiliated with the Scotland football team and DJ George Bowie remixed the song and has teamed up with Bacarra to release a revamped version of the tune for the Euro 2020 tournament. The band re-recorded their vocals for the special Scotland team tribute and Bowie supplied the soundtrack, which Bowie said was “the sort of things dreams are made of.” This is the only original version of the song, recorded for Toppop exactly 44 years ago! A leading figure in the music industry, Bowie is regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He was acclaimed by critics and musicians, particularly for his innovative work during the 1970s. His career was marked by reinvention and visual presentation, and his music and stagecraft had a significant impact on popular music. During his lifetime, his record sales, estimated at over 100 million records worldwide, made him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. In the UK, he was awarded ten platinum, eleven gold and eight silver album certifications, and released 11 number-one albums. In the US, he received five platinum and nine gold certifications. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. Rolling Stone named him among the greatest artists in history and – after his death – the "greatest rock star ever". This video was recorded in the TopPop studios in Hilversum, the Netherlands on 15 October 1977. Also at the occasion Bowie was presented gold records for his 'Low' and 'Heroes' albums in the Netherlands by Toppop presenter Ad Visser. Slik - Forever And Ever • TopPop
"Forever and Ever" is a UK number-one single by Scottish glam rock band Slik, released in 1975. It was number one for one week in February 1976, knocking ABBA's "Mamma Mia" off the number-one position. It was also a hit in Ireland, reaching number two on the charts there. The song was written by the songwriting partnership of Bill Martin and Phil Coulter who had recently stopped writing for the Bay City Rollers. Forever And Ever was originally recorded by Kenny, appearing on their 1975 debut LP The Sound Of Super K. Slik covered the song with a heavier arrangement after the Bay City Rollers refused it. The song was the band's only UK number-one single and their only UK top 20 hit. Their Top of the Pops performance of the song was lead singer Midge Ure's first television appearance; he went on to success with Ultravox and as a solo artist. The single reached number 2 in the Netherlands and the Top 30 in Germany. After another hit, and a flop, the band disbanded in early 1977.
