HAPPY BIRTHDAY CANBERRA
It's Canberra day, a time when we celebrate all the weird and interesting things about our capital and remind ourselves why it's even the capital in the first place.
There's parliament house. And roundabouts. Its streets features names like Bogan Place and Sanger Street.
Its firetrucks are lime green. It has an obscene amount of public holidays, 13 of them, in fact.
Today is one of those famous public holidays, Canberra Day.
At Parliament House there were big celebrations.
It’s about celebrating the city's official naming which happened on the 12th of March, 1913.
Canberra became our country's capital as a kind of compromise between Australia's biggest cities, Sydney and Melbourne.
It was literally designed and built to be a capital city, and more than a 100 years on there's a lot to celebrate.
So, happy Canberra day, you fascinating city.

A big part of WOMAD is getting people involved in the art itself. This year, an artistic interactive dance act called the Colour of Time was one of the stand-outs. It’s based on India’s Holi festival.
A recycled cardboard castle was put together by local students and some artists from France.
In case you’re wondering, instead of having to climb the rickety thing it’s actually built from the bottom up with everyone pitching in to lift it up every couple of minutes.
